Choosing Online Collaboration Tools for Harvesting

an online workshop

How to decide which online collaboration tool to use for harvesting?

There is an abundance of tools and harvesting platforms to choose from - Miro, Mural, Jamboard, Menti, Slido, Google Slides, Padlet and more, but that also means making decisions to match the best tools to your session’s principles, participants, and harvest needs.

Example of Padlet as a harvesting tool; text "Let's Play with Padlet", followed by the instructions and various text and photo additions to the Padlet.

Join this two-hour online session where we’ll:

  • Dig into various considerations such as group size, accessibility, export needs, data recovery, session length and more, that help you decide which online collaboration tool to use when.

  • Review different approaches for your participants’ engagement with the tools before, during and after the session.

  • Share some elements of harvest design, such as identifying the aesthetic and other intricacies (e.g. whole group versus Zoom breakout rooms).

Beginners are welcome to this session! You don’t need to be familiar with a wide variety of online collaboration tools. A little bit of experience is helpful but not necessary.

NOTE: This session won’t be a review of all the online collaboration tools available; I’ll be sharing examples from the tools I most often work with (Miro, Jamboard, Menti, Google Slides, Google Docs, and Padlet). We also won’t be doing a deep dive into designing harvest templates in Miro… if there is interest I may offer a follow-up session specifically on Miro design.

A little about me:

I’ve been designing and hosting group dialogue processes for over 15 years, working with methods such as Open Space Technology, World Café, Collective Story Harvest and more, with a passion for creating participatory harvest processes. My virtual work began in the early days of online learning, and my current work focuses on online + hybrid meeting and harvest design, Zoom tech hosting and process coaching. I love passing on what I’m learning to others (you can find some of my Online Tool Resources and more here).
